More than 45 at-risk shelter dogs were flown from El Paso to Portland on Wednesday morning, where they were hand-delivered to adoptive and foster families.

On May 26th, Austin-based Wondercide teamed up with Dog Is My CoPilot to rescue 45+ dogs from overcrowded facilities in West Texas. Wondercide is a plant-powered, pet-friendly pest control brand.

Dog Is My CoPilot is a non-profit that transfers animals on the verge of euthanasia to adoption centres where they have already found forever homes..

Heather Hall of the Underground Dog organisation rescued the animals leaving El Paso International Airport from multiple West Texas rural shelters, in addition to roughly 40 dogs rescued from El Paso Animal Services.

They were flown to Portland-Troutdale Airport, where they were met by Julie Zagrans of One Tail at a Time PDX and a number of families eager to foster and adopt their new pets.

“The support we receive from our community of animal lovers amazes me everyday,” said Dr. Peter Rork, President and Chief Pilot for Dog Is My CoPilot.

“We are humbled by the generosity of companies like Wondercide who share our mission to help protect as many pets as possible. Thank you to the Wondercide team for being a valued partner and supporting us on our first Texas flight of 2021 so we can accomplish even more life-saving efforts this year.”

Since its beginnings in 2012, Dog Is My Copilot has saved almost 17,000 animals.
